This is the center panel of a 3-panel work, called a triptych.
Honolulu, the city of Aloha in the beautiful island chain of Hawai`i. Honolulu literally means "sheltered bay." The city serves as the state capital of Hawai`i, and is a major financial, military, and cultural hub of the Pacific region. Honolulu is both the westernmost and the southernmost major city in the United States, and is the main gateway into Hawai`i as well as the U.S. It has the highest population density than anywhere else in the archipelago.
The photo encompasses a sweeping 120 degree view of the entire southern leeward side of O`ahu. Kapolei and KoOlina are on the left, with the streak of a plane landing visible in the skies above it. A bit to the right Honolulu International Airport can be seen with its many bright bluish-white lights. Downtown Honolulu is in the center of the photo, with world-famous Waikīkī beach reflecting the many lights of the beachfront hotels. On the bottom left is Kapiolani Park, a favorite location for many locals. The Punchbowl Cemetery of the Pacific can be seen rising in the center behind many buildings. Farther behind it to the left the lights of Pearl City and Waipahu can be seen. The dark area in the center is the Ala Wai Golf Course, with a part of it lit. On the bottom center-right is the community of Kaimuki, and further to the right is the community of Kahala.
