The giant gortex membrane from the front of the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. The gortex membrane is the largest in the world and protects the telescope from the elements. While visible light cannot easily pass through the gortex, it is completely transparent to submillimeter radiation (similar to radiation in a common microwave).
