Infrared Photography - Art

Infrared photography is a special type of photography that captures the infrared light around us. Infrared (IR) light is a type of light that is invisible to our eyes, and has a wavelength longer than visible light. The green foliage of plants particularly emit a lot of infrared radiation, thus making them appear white in infrared photos. In order to capture these types of photos, a specially modified infrared camera and IR filters are used. Different IR filters (with different cutoff wavelengths) give different effects. For instance one type of filter produces yellow or golden colored foliage, while another type produces white colored foliage, producing a very other-worldly and surrealistic photograph.
